A friendly reminder about newborn coverage.

Newborn coverage varies by insurance plan. Most babies are covered under their mother’s insurance for the first 30 days of life, but this is not always the case. Regardless, babies need to be added to your insurance plan as soon as possible. If you don’t add your baby during the first 30 days, your plan may never cover services for that time even if the baby is added later, and you can become responsible for all healthcare services during that time, which can be quite expensive.

You should contact your employer or member services of your health plan right after your baby is born and find out what you need to do to add your baby to your health plan. It does not happen automatically, and your plan is unlikely to remind you, and your employer may not either.

We know it is a busy, crazy, tiring time after having a baby. Just add this to your list of things to do!
